Leading Edge, in collaboration with a prominent UK trade association for mineral products, undertook a significant project to measure concrete usage in the UK’s building industry. This initiative was part of a government-backed research project focusing on construction sector material consumption.
Project Development: Devising a Methodology and Collecting Data
To ensure a comprehensive understanding of concrete usage, the team developed a strategic approach to identify a variety of construction projects across the UK. This approach was crucial to ensure the data collected represented the broader construction sector’s material usage. In-depth technical interviews were conducted in seven key sectors – health, retail, education, offices, warehouses, roads, and residential. These interviews covered 150 construction projects, providing a wide-ranging perspective on concrete usage.
Analysis and Insight: Concrete Usage Across Sectors
The team conducted a detailed analysis of the data gathered, calculating concrete usage totals for each sector. This meticulous analysis produced a detailed data output, fulfilling the trade association’s informational needs and contributing valuable insights to the broader field.
Outcomes and Conclusion: Impact on Industry and Policy
The study provided a comprehensive assessment of concrete use in the UK’s building industry. These insights were essential for material usage patterns, efficiencies, and the client’s reporting to the UK Government. Moreover, the findings laid the groundwork for policy discussions and industry practices concerning sustainability, resource management, and economic planning. This project highlights the power of targeted research and data-driven analysis in achieving client objectives and advancing understanding in the construction industry.
