Market research on plasterboard

We have a wide experience of market research and analysis in the building products industry and have completed several research projects in the plasterboard sector.

Manufacturers need to regularly review what their customers are up to. This means knowing the answer to questions such as:

  • why customers select specific brands
  • reasons for selecting products
  • ratings of plasterboard distributors
  • how customers rate the technical advice provided
  • how are competitors rated

Focused market research can provide powerful information from customers and prospective customers and also provide valuable feedback on product performance and service levels. Respondent groups would typically include plasterers, general builders, distributors, builders merchants and architects / specifiers.

 UK Plasterboard market analysis

An analysis of this market can be obtained through collecting data via market research, as described above, or desk research. Desk research is typically a search of existing data sources to help build up a picture of the market and obtain further information on key brands, customers, products and reasons for purchasing.

Sources of desk research include web research, trade publications, existing reports, company press releases, reports and accounts and relevant web sites.

Example case study – market report on plasterboard

We were asked by a plasterboard manufacturer to carry out research with their UK builders merchant and specialist distributor customers to assess stocking policy, brands carried and pricing. We completed telephone interviews with over 200 builders merchants and distributors to collect the information required. We identified the brands carried as well as which specific products were in stock and the reasons why customers selected specific product types. The information was then used to help formulate the client’s trading policy and assess where there were opportunities to increase sales of specialist plasterboard products.
